WATER BOTTLE SEA BIRDS

Students created these vibrant and unique upcycle sculptures. During this project, we learned about the harmful effects of plastic waste on our dying oceans and rivers. Plastic pollution especially affects migratory seabirds, killing over a million every year. Seabird populations are rapidly in decline because they confuse the plastic waste for their food. We also discussed how to reduce single-use plastic waste in our personal habits.

All of the bottles for this project were collected from the community for creative re-use. The students made tinfoil and tape armatures, which they covered in paper mache. They then painted and adorned their birds with recycled plastic pieces

As we experience ocean acidification and rising sea levels, we are reminded how important creativity is to solving the climate crisis.
